Workshop #1: Australian diagnostics workshop – molecular diagnostics workshop

This molecular session will develop attendees’ knowledge and confidence with using tools and technologies to improve their diagnostic capabilities and therefore improving diagnostics across Australia

Workshop#3: MyPestGuide in Action

When: Tuesday 30 August 2022 from 8.30 am to 12.00 noon
Venue: AgriBio, Victoria B

MyPestGuide® is an easy and effective tool for surveillance and reporting. It is an adaptable reporting system for public, industry and government surveillance (for more details see flier attached).

My Pest Guide training workshop

MyPestGuide® has been endorsed as the preferred tool for general surveillance nationally and is expected to become a national system used for the early detection of plant pests as well as supporting emergency incident responses and quarantine checks.

The proposed workshop will provide a national training opportunity for diagnosticians and surveillance practitioners within the NPBDN and PSNAP who are based in government, industry and academic institutions in Australia and New Zealand to use MyPestGuide® for engagement, surveillance and diagnostic purposes to detect and monitor plant (and animal) pests.

Requirements:

• Each participant is to bring their own laptop. No installation of software prior to the meeting is required.
• Each participant is to bring their own mobile device with MyPestGuide® Reporter loaded on it beforehand, if possible.

Workshop#4: The tale of AUSPestCheck® and the high-quality surveillance data lifecycle”

When: Thursday 1^st September 2022 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm
Venue: AgriBio, Victoria A

Workshop trainers will lead participants through a “high-quality data” on their lifecycle from the field to the analysis software and board table with the help of their friend AUSPestCheck®

Intended for intrepid AUSPestCheck® users who are familiar with the system and are managing surveillance programs in their organisations, we will examine the need for high quality field surveillance data collection to support good analysis and decision making.

Take aways from this session will include how to get the greatest benefit from the Pest Record Specifications; how to establish a Program in AUSPestCheck®; how to leverage the surveillance data collation, sharing and visualisation elements of AUSPestCheck®; and many other adventures of “high-quality data” as part of their lifecycle.

Requirements

• Audience type: Existing AUSPestCheck® users from industry and government who have a familiarity with the system and are responsible for surveillance programs in their organisation.
• AUSPestCheck® is a restricted access system, only registered users may attend this session.
• Laptops required.

Workshop#5: The Australian Plant Pest Database Training

When: Thursday 1^st September 2022 from  10:30 am to 12:30 pm

The Australian Plant Pest Database (APPD) is a virtual database that collates information for over 1.4 million digitised records of vouchered specimens of plant pests and pathogens. The APPD aggregates information from the fifteen major plant pest reference collections found throughout Australia creating a centralised repository of information and a real time national instance of databased specimen records held by the individual collections. The APPD is an important tool used to support Australia’s plant pest status, with information contained within the system informing decision making processes during plant pest incursions and as part of biosecurity import risk assessments. The APPD is also used for purposes including determining host-associations, reporting new host pest records, diagnostic activities, and taxonomic research. Physical specimens are critical reference materials used by diagnosticians ensuring accurate diagnoses of plant pests. The APPD significantly improves the ability of diagnosticians to access these materials in a timely manner, which enhances Australia’s overall diagnostic capability. The APPD has recently been rebuilt and was launched in November 2021. This workshop will provide an interactive training of the new APPD system to new users.

• Participants must be approved APPD users with a current login to the new system
• Participants are required to bring their own laptops to the session

Workshop#6: National Coordinated HTS database Stakeholder Workshop

When: Friday 2nd September 2022 from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Workshop #7: Metabarcoding

When: Friday 2nd September 2022 from 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
Venue: AgriBio, Victoria B

This workshop is aimed for established molecular diagnosticians/biologists with a focus on HTS tools and will cover Metabarcoding applications across different pests and pathogens, small RNA HTS for virus detection.
