PhD opportunities available at the ARC Training Centre in Plant Biosecurity

The ARC Training Centre is seeking outstanding PhD applicants to innovate novel approaches to prevent, respond to, and recover from plant pests and diseases that threaten the economy and environment. There are 10 projects now open for expressions of interest from prospective students.

Benefits: PhD scholarships ($40,000 per annum, tax-free) with placements within government, industry and businesses that will prepare you for a future career as a biosecurity leader.

Expressions of interest for the following projects are open until 30 September 2024:

• Identification of fruit fly biomarkers using mass spectrometry 

• Taxonomy and biology of Euwallacea shot hole borer beetles

• Resolving the pumpkin fruit fly complex

• Plant disease diagnostics in tissue culture 

• Transformational molecular approaches for forest pests and pathogens 

• Data driven decision models for forest biosecurity

• Molecular characterisation of rust pathogens

• Managing fruit fly in Papua New Guinea Treaty Villages

• Investigating scale and mealybug control in Australian viticulture

• Invasive snails as vectors of pathogens and parasites
