The Program Director, Plant Biosecurity Research Initiative is a pivotal and influential role working with and representing seven RDC’s coordinating plant biosecurity research. You will take responsibility for delivering the Plant Biosecurity Research Institute program (PBRI) and will champion the research collaboration of PBRI members, with a specific focus is plant biosecurity research. The role involves:

  • Leading and responsibility for collaboration, stakeholder management, influencing outcomes and program deliverables
  • Identify and address R&D gaps in plant biosecurity
  • Lead the PBRI Strategy
  • Foster cross sectoral priorities and collaboration
  • Maintain governance and success of the programs that are operated by the seven RDC’s
  • Convene and facilitate PBRI meetings to ensure program is aligning with outcome expectations and report accordingly

As a Project Officer, you will support biosecurity preparedness initiatives for Western Australia’s avocado industry as part of the Avocado Industry Biosecurity Strategy. Working closely with growers, industry representatives and biosecurity stakeholders, you will contribute to the development of exotic pest preparedness resources, assist with biosecurity exercises and scenario planning, and help strengthen industry readiness and response capability. The role also involves gathering and analysing information on exotic pest risks and pathways, while identifying gaps in pest risk assessments, diagnostic capacity and existing preparedness resources.

There is an opportunity for an Animal Health Officer – Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) Preparedness, to join the Biosecurity Division within the SA Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

In this role, you will play a key role in strengthening South Australia’s biosecurity systems by supporting livestock industries, securing production and maintaining market access. You will work collaboratively with industries, regional communities, and government partners to strengthen South Australia’s preparedness for emergency animal disease (EAD) threats.

An opportunity for a resourceful and professional individual to deliver a range of biosecurity, invasive weed, and vertebrate pest management programs and activities in alignment with statutory obligations and policy frameworks, aimed at protecting and enhancing the agricultural productivity and biodiversity of the Bega Valley Shire.

As a Biosecurity and Invasive Species Officer, you will develop and implement biosecurity inspection programs across public and private lands and design and deliver biosecurity management programs for invasive weed species. You will provide expert advice on invasive species management, coordinate weed and vertebrate pest control activities, and work collaboratively with landholders, community groups and government agencies to achieve positive biosecurity outcomes.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Biosecurity Victoria, the Chief Plant Health Officer is Victoria's principal scientific authority on plant health and biosecurity. You will lead the development of strategic plant biosecurity policy, programs and preparedness initiatives that protect Victoria's horticulture, forestry, agriculture and natural environment from exotic and emerging plant pests and diseases. Providing trusted advice to the Executive Director, senior government leaders and the Minister for Agriculture, you will influence policy and decision-making at the highest levels while representing Victoria on national committees and negotiating outcomes that protect the state's biosecurity and trade interests. Leading a highly specialised team, you will also drive emergency preparedness and response capability, strengthen partnerships across government, industry and research, and foster innovation across surveillance, compliance and legislative frameworks.
